Student Government Positions
Executive Board

President

- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- A minimum of 60 credit hours completed
- A minimum of 30 credit hours completed at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI
Duties of this position:
   • Serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Student Government and Chairman of the Executive Board
   • Appoint an Executive Cabinet and committees
   • Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
   • Investigate problems affecting students and present them to the Student Senate
   • Act as a liaison between the Student Government and the administration of Lawrence Technological University
   • Serve as an ex oficio member of all officially recognized organizations, clubs, and Student Government Committees
   • Call the Student Senate and Executive Board into special sessions with at least 48 hours’ notice to the respective members
   • Speak within the Student Senate but hold no vote
   • Carry out actions that are necessary and proper for the preservation of students’ rights

Executive Vice President

- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
- A minimum of 50 credit hours completed
- A minimum of 30 credit hours completed at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI
- Must be enrolled full-time at the Southfield Campus of Lawrence Technological University
Duties of this position:
   • Serve as the Chairman of the Student Senate and cast the tie-breaking vote
   • Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
   • Introduce legislation into the Student Senate as necessary and ensure that all boards and committees report monthly to the Student Senate
   • Investigate problems affecting students and present them to the Student Senate
   • Act as a liaison between the Student Government and the administration of Lawrence Technological University
   • Serve as an ex oficio member of all officially recognized organizations, clubs, and Student Government Committees
   • Serve as the student representative to the Staff Senate of Lawrence Technological University or delegate a senator for this position
   • Call the Student Senate into special sessions with at least 48 hours’ notice to the respected members
   • Carry out actions that are necessary and proper for the preservation of students’ rights

Vice President of Finance

- Compensation: $400 per term ($200 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
Duties of this position are to:
   • Serve as the Chief Financial Officer
   • Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
   • Introduce legislation into the Student Senate as necessary but shall not vote
   • Investigate problems affecting students and present them to the Student Senate
   • Act as a liaison between the Student Government and the administration of Lawrence Technological University
   • Serve as an ex oficio member of all officially recognized organizations, clubs, and Student Government Committees
   • Keep a permanent and public record of transactions
   • Submit a financial report to every Executive Board meeting
   • Report monthly to the Student Senate on finances

Vice President of Public Relations

- Compensation: $400 per term ($200 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
Duties of this office are to:
   • Maintain Student Senate vote count
   • Perform clerical duties as assigned by the Executive Vice President
   • Chair the Publications and Communications Committee (Historian, Newspaper Editor, Journalists, Photographer)
   • Hold bi-weekly meetings with Publications and Communications Committee
   • Submit a Publication and Communications Committee report to every Executive Board Meeting
   • Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
   • Introduce legislation into the Student Senate as necessary but shall not vote
   • Investigate problems affecting students and present them to the Student Senate
   • Serve as an ex oficio member of all officially recognized organizations, clubs, and Student Government Committees
   • Keep a record of the history of this governing body, research and archive past events, and provide access for all students to this information

Vice President of Student Programming

- Compensation: $400 per term ($200 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
Duties of this office are to:
   • Chair the Student Programming Committee (Marketing Officer, Event Assistant)
   • Hold bi-weekly meetings with Student Programming Committee
   • Serve on the Student Government Executive Board
   • Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
   • Report monthly to the Student Senate on campus-wide programming
   • Submit an event/activity report to every Executive Board meeting
   • Maintain records of programming which directly impacts the student body as a whole
   • Collaborate with the Office of Student Engagement on projects and identify funding opportunities
   • Collaborate with all organizations and teams to co-host on campus events

Vice President of External Affairs

- Compensation: $400 per term ($200 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
Duties of this office are to:
   • Share the common responsibilities of the other vice presidents
   • Must attend every senate meeting, executive board meeting, and any meeting called by the president or student government
   • Report to the President and Executive Board directly every week about SAM updates
   • Make every effort to attend all official meetings of the Board of Directors, SAM
   • The Vice President of External Affairs that are not present greater than three official meetings for one year on the Board of Directors of SAM shall be, in writing, removed from office by the President, unless they are excused by the President
   • To serve on the Board of Directors of the Student Association of Michigan, an individual shall, at the time of their appointment, be enrolled in a member school of the Student Association of Michigan
   • Position is appointed by the President
   • Make all substantive decision on behalf of the Presidents directions
   • Needs to be in attendance with the President in all the Regional Meetings of SAM
   • Keep meeting minutes and document all the meetings that is attending and ask for information for the ones that cannot attend

Parliamentarian

- Compensation: $250 per term ($125 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
Duties of this office are to:
   • Chair the Judiciary Review Committee
   • Appoint two (2) non-affiliated students to the Judicial Review Committee
   • Serve as an ex oficio member of the Executive Board
   • Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Student Senate
   • Investigate problems affecting students and present solutions to the Student Senate
   • Ensure all meetings of Student Government run according to Robert’s Rules of Order
   • Introduce necessary amendments to the Constitution and/or By-Laws
   • Facilitate impeachment hearings
   • Ensure all bills passed by the Student Senate follow the guidelines of this Constitution
   • Interpret the Constitution, By-Laws, and other official governing documents created by the Student Government
   • Ensure all officially recognized student organizations have democratic constitutions



Publications and Communications Committee Positions

Historian

- Compensation: $100 per term ($50 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
Duties of this position:
   • Informs, through social media and university newsletter, about upcoming student events
   • Informs, through social media and university newsletter, about Student Government activity
   • Archive important Student Government information
   • Update the Student Government news board
   • Attend all Student Senate meetings
   • Attend bi-weekly meeting with the Publications and Communications Committee

Head of Marketing

- Compensation: $200 per term ($100 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
Duties of this position:
   • Lead marketing campaigns and efforts of student government
   • Collaborate with Student Government, student body, faculty and staff on various events and university topics
   • Control and oversee Student Government social media accounts
   • Collaborate with Historian to publish information through social media and university newsletter
   • Attend all Student Senate meetings
   • Hold bi-weekly meetings with Social Media Manager and Photographer
   • Attend bi-weekly meeting with the Publications and Communications Committee

Social Media Manager

- Compensation: $100 per term ($50 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
Duties of this position:
   • Update on Student Government social media accounts about Student Government events as well as university activities and achievements
   • Collaborate with Student Government, student body, faculty and staff on various events and university topics
   • Collaborate with Photographer
   • Attend bi-weekly meetings held by the Head of Marketing
   • Report bi-weekly to the Head of Marketing

Photographer

- Compensation: $100 per term ($50 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
Duties of this position:
   • Attend and photograph all Student Government events
   • Collaborate with student body, faculty and staff on gathering photographs of various events and university activities
   • Collaborate with Historian
   • Collaborate with Social Media Manager
   • Attend bi-weekly meetings held by the Head of Marketing
   • Report bi-weekly to the Head of Marketing

 

Student Programming Committee

Marketing Officer

- Compensation: $50 per term ($25 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
Duties of this position:
   • Assist Vice President of Programming during event
   • Design, print and distribute Student Government event posters
   • Manage Student Government events on social media
   • Attend bi-weekly meetings held by Vice President of Programming

Event Assistant

- Compensation: $50 per term ($25 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
Duties of this position:
   • Assist Vice President of Programming on creating new events
   • Assist Vice President of Programming during event
   • Attend bi-weekly meetings held by Vice President of Programming

 

Judicial Review Committee

Judicial Assistant – Non-Senator Position

- Compensation: $50 per term ($50 per semester)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
Duties of this position:
   • Assist Parliamentarian on creating new events 


Senate Body

Senator

- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
- Must be enrolled full-time at the Southfield Campus of Lawrence Technological University
Duties of this position:
   • The Student Senate shall hold all legislative powers of this governing body and shall provide a means of expression for students and student organizations.
   • Senators shall voice the concerns within their districts and place constituents’ needs above personal gain at all times

District leader

- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
- Must be enrolled full-time at the Southfield Campus of Lawrence Technological University
Duties of this position:
   • The District Leader shall be appointed by the senators within his/her district and ratified by the Student Senate by a majority vote.
   • Serve the constituents of his/her district
   • Serve as the official spokesperson of the district and communicate all updates and changes to the students within the district
   • Attend all meetings of the Student Government as outlined in the Organizational By-Laws
   • Attend all assigned committee meetings
   • Introduce and vote on legislation as necessary
   • Investigate problems affecting students and report to the Senate Leader
   • Maintain good standing as outlined in Article XII

Senate leader

- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
- Must be enrolled full-time at the Southfield Campus of Lawrence Technological University
Duties of this position:
   • Serve the constituents of his/her district
   • Serve as the official spokesperson of the Student Senate
   • Serve as an ex oficio member of the Executive Board
   • Attend all meetings of the Student Senate and hold bi-weekly meetings with District Leaders
   • Investigate problems affecting students and present solutions to the Student Senate
   • Speak within the Student Senate and vote to represent his/her district
   • Communicate weekly with senators
   • Issue charters for student organizations
   • Appoint replacements for vacancies in the Student Senate as outlined in the Organizational By-Laws
   • Introduce necessary amendments to the Constitution and/or By-Laws
   • Appoint three (3) Senators to serve on the Judicial Review Committee
