LTU’s Lywood contributes to victory in all-star contest
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013
By Brad Beyer On Jan. 4 senior Phil Lywood (Windsor, ON) represented Lawrence Technological University in the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference’s annual East vs. West All-Star game. Lywood was chosen by the coaches to play for Team East, which came out on top, 14-11. The final score was comprised of points from the skill competitions and total goals in the game. Lywood’s first action came in the Breakaway Challenge – earning a point for a goal against Grand Valley State’s goalkeeper Jiri Aberle. In the Rapid Fire Competition, Lywood was paired with Chris Zale of Northwood University to score on 3-of-5 shots, giving Team East another point. The East team won the skills competition, 6-5. In the game Lywood was a line mate with Michael Murdoch and Dan Cowan of the University of Michigan- Flint, a threesome that had experience playing together from the All-Star Challenge in March 2012. Lywood’s line was held off the score sheet but heard plenty of wows from the crowd for their flashy control of the puck. Team East would find the back of the net eight times to win the game, 8-6.
