Winterfest warms up school spirit at LTU
Wednesday, February 1st, 2012
The weather hasn’t cooperated for the outdoor activities planned for Winterfest, but there are still plenty of ways for students to enjoy a break from the studying grind during Lawrence Tech’s first Winterfest. Skating on the portable rink behind Housing North had to be cancelled due to extremely wet conditions caused by unseasonably warm temperatures, and the preliminary rounds of the broomball tournament were held at the Southfield Sports Arena instead. The snow art competition scheduled for Thursday was cancelled when warm weather made it impractical to truck in snow. Instead students will see some snow of a more permanent variety in the atrium instead. The ice sculpture competition is still on for Friday, but the time may be changed to slow down the inevitable melting if temperatures remain well above freezing in the afternoon. Still on the agenda are the Winterfest Bash at North Housing on Friday, the Miss Lawrence Tech Scholarship Pageant on Saturday, and hockey games on Friday and Saturday.
