LTU’s Saudi Student Union wins national award

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Attending a reception hosted by the Saudi Student Union are (L-R) Jawad Alkhalaf, Ahmed Aljabr, President Lewis Walker, College Professor Ben Benson, Ibrahim Alabdan, and Maher Aldukhel.

The Saudi Student Union (SSU) at Lawrence Technological University has been named one of the ten best in the country by the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission.

The Saudi Student Union of Lawrence Tech is one of the largest active student organizations on campus. Activities have included Eid celebrations, sports tournaments, workshop trainings, involvement in volunteer programs, and student tutoring.

The Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (SACM) is very involved and supportive in assisting qualified students with the best possible educational opportunities at the best educational institutions in the United States.  Students are supported academically and financially so they can achieve their academic goals.  SACM is also instrumental in collecting and disseminating information that reflects the Saudi culture, traditions and heritage.

From the fall of 2010 into the spring of 2011, the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission conducted evaluations of some 200 Saudi student groups.  Lawrence Tech’s SSU was recognized to be one of the ten best organizations in the entire country, finishing ahead of many groups at much larger universities.

In November, the SSU held a reception to recognize faculty and staff at Lawrence Tech who have assisted the Saudi students in making their student union one of the best in the country.
