Vanilla Ice heats up a cold night
Wednesday, October 12th, 2011
The weather outside may have been frightful, but that didn’t deter several hundred Lawrence Tech students and friends from having a hot time at the Homecoming concert on Sept. 30. The audience quickly forgot about the wind, the rain and the cold temperatures when Vanilla Ice and 3OH!3 filled the air with their driving music. Local recording artist Lewis Hensley warmed up the crowd as the opening act, and 95.5 Friday night DJ Ace was entertaining as the emcee. Student volunteers from SPAM and the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity helped with hospitality and crowd control. Members of the SAE Aero Design team sold Blue Devil horns, and the Student Engagement staff sold Homecoming t-shirts. The Homecoming concert program was planned by Leslie Wilson before she left for another job in August, and KCP Coordinator Eula Muckleroy completed the arrangements in her new role as acting student activities coordinator. Following the concert, students gathered around the bonfire near Ridler Field House for some much-appreciated heat, more music, pulled pork, and pizza from Shield’s Pizza – the winner of the pizza contest.
