Lawrence Technological University is reviving the tradition of Homecoming Day with a full slate of activities on Saturday, Oct. 1, including a men’s varsity soccer game against the University of Michigan-Dearborn and the inaugural induction ceremony for the university’s Sports Hall of Fame

Earlier this year Lawrence Tech joined the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and this is the first season for varsity teams in men’s soccer, women’s volleyball and men’s bowling. The university plans to field 10 varsity teams in the 2012-13 academic year.

 

Homecoming Week begins Monday, Sept., 26, and culminates with Homecoming Day when alumni and the families of students are invited to visit the campus and attend activities. This is the first Homecoming at Lawrence Tech since the 1990s, although alumni have been invited to numerous other events on campus in the intervening years.

 

“With the return of varsity athletics and other exciting developments at the university, we thought this was a good time to reinstate a tradition that will bring both alumni and the families of students to the campus,” Dean of Students Kevin Finn said. Disc golf tournament, 10 a.m.Some of the highlights:

• Homecoming tailgate party, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Blue Devil Days campus visit for prospective students, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• CruiseIn auto show, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Alumni soccer game, noon
• Dedication of renovated life sciences research labs, 12:30 p.m.
• Sports Hall of Fame inaugural induction ceremony, 1:30 p.m.
• Varsity soccer game, 2 p.m.
• Quidditch tournament finals during halftime of the soccer game
• Varsity hockey game, 6:30 p.m. (Southfield Civic Center)
