Three honored as staff member of the month
Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011
Mary Alice Power, Sally Ilg and Rachel Cronover have been selected as the Staff Member of the Month for December, January and February by the Staff Recognition Committee of the Lawrence Tech Staff Senate.
Power, who was named staff member of the month for December, will be retiring soon after serving as a part-time librarian at Lawrence Tech for 18 years. During that time she has been a member of the Staff Council for three two-year terms. She was involved in founding the original Recycling Committee on campus in the late 1990s.
She teaches library instruction classes and provides detailed inter-loan service to our Lawrence Tech students and faculty.
“Despite her part-time status, she always participates in campus and library initiatives,” said Cathy Phillips in nominating Power.
Power said her favorite part of being a librarian at Lawrence Tech is assisting students with reference questions. “She exemplifies what our library is all about – providing superior service to our patrons,” Phillips said.
Ilg, who was named staff person of the month for January, has been at Lawrence Tech since 2001 and is the evening secretary for the College of Architecture and Design. In that role she is often the only staff person available for the adjunct faculty who teach evening classes and is known for the variety of ways she helps both faculty and students.
She was nominated by Dan Faoro, interim chair of the Department of Architecture. “Sally has been very helpful in preparing studies for the department. As the primary support person she works well with faculty, who hold her in high regard. She has proven herself as most capable, reliable and competent in many areas,” he said.
Cronover, who is the staff member of the month for February, is a producer in the Department of eLearning Services. She was nominated by Ali Barnard, administrative assistant to Dean Glen LeRoy in the College of Architecture and Design.
“Rachel is one of the hardest working people I know here at the University. She really does a great job in making sure the media needs in our college are taken care of,” Barnard said. “What is especially important to note is that when issues come up, she rectifies them immediately and does whatever necessary to make things right. I appreciate Rachel and the outstanding work she does in support of our college.”
The Staff Council recognizes full- and part-time Lawrence Tech staff each month for their outstanding contributions to the University. Nominees exhibit professionalism, dedication, and integrity in the workplace and excel in the performance of their work duties. Nominations are accepted at any time from any Lawrence Tech constituent (staff, faculty, or student) through the Staff Senate website .
