Gamper elected to AIAS national post
Wednesday, January 26th, 2011
Architecture schools today demand more from students than buildings that are merely aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Students are expected to utilize the tools within the classroom as well as the profession in order to become effective leaders. The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) is an organization that provides these tools, giving students the ability to apply concepts and ideas learned in school to real world challenges. This year, the AIAS chapter at Lawrence Tech has strived to provide students with opportunities to reach out to the community and to expand the chapter’s outreach and influence at a national level. Our vice president of social events, Bryce Gamper, ran for the Midwest Quad Director position on the national board of directors for the 2011-12 academic year. After returning from the AIAS National Grassroots Conference in Washington, D.C., in July 2010, he was inspired and motivated to become a larger part of the organization and to represent Lawrence Tech on a national level. After announcing his candidacy in the fall, Gamper began preparing his campaign, which took place at Forum, the annual AIAS conference at the end of December. This year Forum was hosted in Toronto, where 950 architecture students from all over the world converged for a week of architecture and leadership. During the five days at Forum, Gamper’s enthusiasm and commitment to the organization stood out immensely as he networked, gave speeches and connected with other members. On the day of elections, all 14 Lawrence Tech attendees leaped out of their chairs as Bryce Gamper’s election as the 2011-12 Midwest Quad Director was announced. His accomplishment spread like wildfire throughout the chapter and everyone came back motivated and ready to take AIAS-LTU to bigger and better places. As the vice president at our Lawrence Tech chapter, Gamper has consistently proven himself worthy of so much more; we are confident and excited that he will positively represent AIAS and Lawrence Tech on the national level. – Moulee Patel, AIAS LTU- Chapter President 2010-11 – Vibha Kondur, AIAS LTU- Student Government Representative 2010-11 For information please email mpatel2@ltu.edu and visit www.aiasltu.org
