Here is just some of the sports and recreation news coming out of Ridler Field House:

The Smash Brothers were last year’s champions of flag football at Lawrence Tech? Will they be able to hang on to their title this year?

Flag Football Fridays

Come out and play Flag Football on Fridays at the Point.  The Smash Brothers are returning to defend their campus championship title, so get your team together to compete weekly.

Team sign-up is at the Field House; the deadline is Friday, Sept. 3.  If you are interested in playing and do not have team, you can sign up as a free agent and be placed on a team.  Games are on Friday afternoons, anytime between 2-5 p.m. on campus.

New assistant director
Don Gillette is the new assistant director of Recreation, Athletics and Wellness. The position opened up when Scott Trudeau became director following the retirement of Al McLaughlin over the summer.

Gillette has a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Central Michigan University. Recently he finished up his Master’s of Arts in Sport Management at Southern Mississippi University. He was the intramural sports graduate assistant at Southern Miss.

Gillette grew up in Macomb Township, and he’s happy to be back in the metro Detroit area. “I’ve always been passionate about sports and to have the opportunity to work in this field is truly a blessing.

Scott Trudeau (L) is director of Recreation, Athletics and Wellness. Don Gillette is assistant director.

The challenges and opportunities that I face here at LTU are truly exciting,” Gillette said. The 2009 season marked the 37th year of intercollegiate club soccer at Lawrence Tech. Will Dyer, a former player from OSU and a USSF “B” licensed coach, is entering his second year at LTU.  The Lawrence Tech soccer team finished 6-6-1 this past fall, finishing the year by sweeping the Wayne State soccer program!

Men’s Soccer
Lawrence Tech soccer is a year-round program, where we play outdoor and indoor soccer, hold various fundraisers for the program.  We are dedicated to fielding the most competitive soccer team in this region. The team seeks to provide opportunity for competition at the highest levels for all of members. We give an opportunity for students to participate at a collegiate level without demands of the varsity level.

  • Become a Hole Sponsor for $100.  A color sign with your company’s name will be placed on one of the tee boxes.
