Leslie Michalik, the administrator of student services in the College of Architecture and Design has been selected as the February 2010 Staff Member of the Month by the Staff Recognition committee of the Staff Senate at Lawrence Technological University.

Michalik, who has worked at Lawrence Tech since 2002, is responsible for the overall management and provision of administrative support to the dean’s office and all administrative and teaching personnel and students within the College. In this capacity, she manages all undergraduate student records, the undergraduate probationary counseling procedure, and student registration.

Additionally, in association with department chairs, she schedules undergraduate classes, formulates and implements departmental policies and procedures, and assists with the formation of the departmental budgets. She provides guidance to undergraduate students regarding proper course sequencing and selection, conducts all senior reviews, and directs the verification of seniors for graduation.

Michalik also supervises several staff members. “She has really helped me learn and grow as a staff member in the year and half I have been working with her,” said Megan Fuhlman, who reports to Michalik in her capacity as student services coordinator for the College.

Keith Nagara, director of the transportation design degree program, nominated Michalik after seeing a framed thank-you letter from a student in her office.

About this and other notes from students, Michalik commented, “They are a nice reminder that you are appreciated by students.  As you read the note, you can see this one was pretty special.  I don’t know if the student who wrote it knows how I felt about it, but if the student shows up in my office again, she or he will be able to see just what it meant to me.”

Leslie graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with an undergraduate degree in psychology, and Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas, with a master of science degree in counseling and human development.

The Staff Council recognizes full- and part-time Lawrence Tech staff each month for their outstanding contributions to the University. Nominees exhibit professionalism, dedication, and integrity in the workplace and excel in the performance of their work duties. Nominations are accepted at any time from any Lawrence Tech constituent (staff, faculty, or student) through the Staff Senate website .
