  • (L-R) Jason Gaudette, Alex Dengate, Blaine Westerlund, Matt Callanan, James Oh, George Gryzwacz, Steve Shalayko, and Ben Videan. The players did a nice job of providing “service with a smile.”
  • Lawrence Tech Captain Dan Baker carries the puck out of the defensive zone to start an attack against Calvin College. Baker had two goals in the game
  • Alternate Captain Joe Donelko (19) takes the face-off as left wing Mark Koenigsknecht (16) gets ready to retain possession of the puck. Donelko and Koenigsknecht each had three points in the game against Calvin College.
  • Blue Devils goalie George Gryzwacz (34) fends off a shot against Calvin College. Gryzwacz played 40 minutes in the game, stopping 17 of 21 shots.
  • Forward Mark Koenigsknecht tries to control the puck off the boards.

The second annual “Dine with the Devils” hockey team fund-raiser took place on Saturday night, Jan. 23, at Cafe Lawrence. The Blue Devils brought in 175 people for the dinner before our home game against Calvin College.

The crowd was made up of family, friends, students, faculty, and staff. Taher Dining Services provided the food and services for the fund-raiser.  Dining Services Director Brent Bishop was awarded a team jacket for going above and beyond to help support the hockey program.

The Blue Devils came out fighting after the “Dine with the Devils” fund-raiser.  After the first period they had the Calvin Knights locked up in a 3-3 tie.  Calvin scored once in the second period and two more times in the third, but the Blue Devils fought back and scored two unanswered goals.

The Blue Devils pulled their goalie in an attempt to get the equalizer, but Calvin scored an empty net goal with just 49 seconds left to hold off the relentless Lawrence Tech team, 7-5.

The Blue Devils have only two weekends of hockey remaining this season.  Come out to cheer them on as they try to end the season on a winning note with three home games left!   Lawrence Tech takes on Northwood at home on Saturday, Jan. 30, and Oakland University on Saturday, Feb. 6, for Senior Night. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. at the Southfield Civic Arena.

The Blue Devils finish their regular season the next day, Feb. 7, at 12:30 p.m. at the Downtown Showdown against the University of Detroit Mercy at Clark Park in Detroit.  This will be the Blue Devils’ first outdoor game, and it’s the start of what should become an exciting annual tradition.

The University will be providing transportation to and from the game for all students who want to come cheer the team on for this outdoor showdown.  The first 72 students who RSVP to strudeau@ltu.edu for the bus will get free transportation, free admission into the game, and a free LTU hockey stocking cap!
