Campus Safety officer Christopher Piggot has been selected as the December 2009 Staff Member of the Month. He is the senior sergeant assigned to day shift.

Piggot started working at Lawrence Tech on Jan. 16, 1985, so he is celebrating his 25th anniversary here. “The word on the street is that you’d have to do something pretty outrageous to shock or surprise him,” said Nicole Huntsperger, who announced the award on behalf of the Lawrence Tech Staff Council, the governing body of the Staff Senate.

The award was presented at the December lunch meeting of the Staff Senate.

Cliff Johnson of  Instructional Technology nominated Piggot for the award.  “Chris has been a great help to me and others at Lawrence Tech. No matter what time it is, if Chris is on duty he responds quickly and cheerfully to assist myself and others. Chris is very deserving of this award,” Johnson said.

Campus Safety Director Harry Butler added, “Chris is well liked and respected by the Campus Safety officers and management. Chris is always pleasant, polite and willing to pitch in to help someone.”

Piggot retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of staff sergeant after serving in Vietnam, Okinawa, Korea and stateside. While in the Army, he served in the Air Defense Artillery and the Military Police. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service for his actions in Vietnam.

He and his wife Taeyon, whom he met in Korea, have been married 31 years. They have a son, Timothy, who is a Lawrence Tech graduate and works as a business manager for Wright & Filippus in Ann Arbor. They also have a daughter, Jean, who is a school teacher in Las Vegas.

The Staff Council recognizes full- and part-time Lawrence Tech staff each month for their outstanding contributions to the University. Nominees exhibit professionalism, dedication, and integrity in the workplace and excel in the performance of their work duties. Nominations are accepted at any time from any Lawrence Tech constituent (staff, faculty, or student) through the Staff Senate website .
