Thursday, October 29th, 2009
![]() Natalie Zebula The Lawrence Tech Staff Council, the governing body of the Staff Senate, has selected Reference Librarian Natalie Zebula as the September 2009 Staff Member of the Month. Zebula joined the library staff full-time in August 2008 after completing her master’s degree in library science at Wayne State University. She also holds an master’s degree in art history and earned her BFA in art and graphic design. Reflecting on what she enjoys about her position at Lawrence Tech, she notes the joy she feels when she is able to help students find information they need. Navigating the library can often be intimidating to students who have rarely used one, and she helps students overcome their hesitation through demonstration and encouragement. Librarian Mary Power, who nominated Zebula for this award, also notes that she is a whiz when it comes to incorporating new technology into the workplace. “In her 14 months at LTU, Natalie has upgraded the Library website and mindset to the 21st century,” Power said. Her initiatives have included signing the Library up with Twitter, Facebook, Meebo (for direct chat with librarians), Flickr (where she posts discoveries from vintage L-Books), and other social networking sites.” Power also notes that Zebula is good-natured and helpful in getting other library staff up to speed with technology. The Staff Council recognizes full- and part-time Lawrence Tech staff each month for their outstanding contributions to the University. Nominees exhibit professionalism, dedication, and integrity in the workplace and excel in the performance of their work duties. Nominations are accepted at any time from any Lawrence Tech constituent (staff, faculty, or student) through the Staff Senate website . – Nicole Huntsperger
